“When life gets you down, do you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.”- Dory from Finding Nemo
“Just do the next right thing. Take a step, step again. It is all that I can to do the next right thing.” – Anna from Frozen
I could go on and on with motivational quotes from Disney, but I think you get the idea. If not, google motivational quotes from Disney and that will keep you going for a bit. For now, I want to just let you know how powerful (and helpful) this idea is: to just do something.
Those moments when things feel off, too much, paralyzing, intense just ask yourself “what can I do” and do that.
It can be something silly: sing the ABC’s, do a full body shake, play your favorite song and dance, look up a joke, pretend to be an elephant.
Something energetic: clap your hands 20 times, do 10 pushups, run/walk around the block, do intentional breathing (breathe in for 7 and out for 7), stretch.
A change in your environment or temperature: step outside, take a cold shower, turn on a fan, drink cold water, make hot tea/chocolate/coffee.
Doing something productive: wash one dish, take the trash out, move the laundry basket full of clothes into the bedroom, put your phone on the charger, make lunch for tomorrow.
Hey, look at you, you tried something, you moved, you thought, you breathed… so now check back in with yourself, how do you feel? Different? The same? What was helpful, what wasn’t? Get curious about yourself and see what comes next.
I know you’re scared but just keep swimming and see where it takes you.
