Here at Love Heal Grow Counseling, we are contacted multiple times a week by men who are experiencing erectile dysfunction (ED). Sometimes it’s been going on for years, sometimes they thought the issues were behind them only to be caught off guard by more problems with their erection, and sometimes they’ve only had their first episode of ED and want to get help right away so it doesn’t happen again.
What I want these men to know–and usually what I tell them in our first session–is that they are not alone: most men experience sexual problems at some point in their lives. And there are steps they can take to help.
If you are experiencing erectile dysfunction (ED) or any problems getting or holding an erection, you might be feeling embarrassed by it and worried that it won’t get better. You might notice yourself thinking constantly about it, replaying embarrassing sexual moments in your head, or avoiding sex all together. This change in your body is making you feel unlike yourself or you’re worried you won’t be able to please your partner. The worst part–you’re completely alone with these thoughts because it’s hard to talk about it, maybe even with your partner.
You don’t have to be alone with this anymore. At Love Heal Grow Counseling, we provide skilled and supportive sex therapy. Sex therapy is a type of talk-only therapy (no touch involved) that includes a focus on sexual wellness, education and exercises to try at home.
In sex therapy, we:
- Recommend you visit your doctor and/or urologist for bloodwork and a medical assessment to see if there are medical complications contributing to your symptoms.
- Listen to how you’ve been feeling and get a picture of what factors we may be able to help with such as stress management, treating depression or anxiety symptoms, improving communication or intimacy issues with your partner, and easing the negative thoughts or images that pop into your brain.
- Provide education, emotional support and suggestions on what you can try at home either alone or with your partner.
You can feel confident in the bedroom again.
Most of our clients report less anxiety after the very first session.
If you are ready for help with ED or erection problems you can schedule an appointment with one of our therapists. We are here to help.
